Let’s Check in with Your Mental and Physical Health!
How do you feel about the direction your life is going? Are you happy with your job and relationships? Are you having any odd aches and pains that weren’t there before? Maybe a few more headaches?
If you said yes to any of this, it’s probably time to just sit down with yourself and make sure that you are the best you that you can be right now. Here are a few steps you can take that can make all the difference to your health!
Watch Your Alcohol Intake
A glass of wine with dinner each night is not anything to sweat over. But if you find yourself grabbing a drink every time you feel stressed, it may be time to check that habit. We may not even notice ourselves doing it!
Take a break from drinking and replace it with an evening walk to clear the mind and relax a bit. However, if you find yourself struggling to get through the day without a drink we do recommend you talk to a counselor. Services, like the stellar alcohol treatment Orange County families can access, are there to help us overcome those unhealthy habits we pick up and get us back on track to a healthier life.
Get Lots of Sleep
If you aren’t sleeping well right now, it will make you extra grumpy and lead to tiredness and aches throughout the day. Our bodies need rest to work at their best. Not only does it alleviate the aches and pains, it can uplift your general mood. If you are struggling with sleep, here are our suggestions to help you rest at night:
-a nice hot lavender bath before bed
-spray lavender scent on your sheets in the bed
-journal your thoughts before you sleep
-drink a cup of chamomile tea
-turn off all electronics an hour before bed (read if you feel the need)
Eat a Healthy Diet
Most of our aches and pains can be attributed in part to an unhealthy diet. Be sure to eat lots of leafy greens and vegetables with smaller portions of meat. Ease up on the carbohydrates as they sit heavier in your system and take more effort to burn. Avoid caffeine and sugar! With this, you will find yourself with more energy to get through the day and a sense of general well being.
Take A Walk
Exercise can help you feel better physically and emotionally. It doesn’t take very much either! A nice walk after dinner or early in the morning is just enough to keep your body moving and keep those endorphins flowing. When you walk regularly you will less often suffer a pulled muscle or a sore back.
And if walking isn’t exciting enough, check out any number of workouts (yoga, spinning, running, weight lifting, elliptical, etc.) to get you moving and feeling better. But do check with your doctor before implementing any new workouts to be sure it’s safe for you!
Our mental and physical health is tied together. If one is amiss, it will be reflected in the other. Taking care of both aspects makes it easier to handle the stress in our lives, and overall we feel better about ourselves. Don’t let the stigma around depression or anxiety wear you down, you deserve to take care of yourself so enjoy it as best as you can!
